We wonder why it says so much in the Word about singing, making melody in our hearts, rejoicing, praising. Well I thought about this and thought one reason is because it brings us the ability to be strong. Songs like Onward Christian Soldiers, when you hear it, it revives ones soul to stand up, and not be down trodden or fearful, but instead it inspires us to be brave and strengths us to fight the good fight of faith and be courageous. When my son died at age 41, and when I was diagnosed with Cirrhosis of the liver, I had a peace in the midst of these trials. I remember walking down the hall and singing two verses from two songs. One has the words, “I don’t know about tomorrow, I don’t seem to understand, but I know who holds my future and I know who holds my hand.” The second song went like this, “Whatever my lot thou has taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul.” We each have our ” lots” to have to go through, each one different from one another, but nevertheless painful. However, I find that singing songs like these and others songs lifts my spirit and soul up to heaven, and no matter what I have to face, I can go through it, because I DO know that the Lord is with me. When I was diagnosed with Cirrhosis, I asked the Lord saying, “Lord, am I going to die?” He didn’t say yes or no, but I heard in my mind Him to say, “I will hold your hand to the very end”. What more could I ask for? If Jesus is with us, holding our hand through it all, what more could we ask for?
For behold a Savior is born in Bethlehem who is Christ the Lord! And the government shall be upon HIS shoulders, the Almighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Price of Peace is He! YEA! So we don’t have to worry about our present government, and all that happening around us, for we have a hope and a future which far surpasses all this now. This land is not our home, as we are merely sojourners or (visitors) in a foreign land (down here), just passing through on our way to our home made without hands for us in Heaven. Wow what a wonderful future we all have, so let us look up, for our redemption draws nearer each day! All of this is temporary, our trials, our tests, our good days and our bad days. We can now rejoice in all that the Father has planned for us, “eyes have not seen nor ears heard, neither has it entered into the heart of man, the things that God has prepared for those who love Him.” Oh what a wonderful season this is, to rejoice solely in Him, who gave us the most precious wonderful gift He could ever give us, His Only Son. It is all because that little Baby was born in Bethlehem who was born to die for us, so that we might live. Therefore, when we sing our Christmas songs, let’s really listen to the words and meaning of each word that we are singing or listening to. They have so much meaning and can just lift our hearts and minds to the heights of Heaven which will be our eternal home, all because of Jesus’ willingness to obey His Father and go to the cross on our behalf, and the Father giving us His Dear Son for this purpose! God Bless You All and I wish you all a very very Merry Christmas.
