HAVE YOU EVER ASKED YOURSELF: What is my PURPOSE in life? What am I HERE FOR? Perhaps your kid sare all grown, Perhaps you are single, Perhaps each day seems the same day in & day out, and so you think “what is life all about?” I use to ask myself this question, and
THEN I SAW THE MOVIE “FACING THE GIANTS” and this answered all my questions! This is what I want to share with you. It’s about a Christian high school football team that had been LOOSING for the past 3 years. The parents were very discouraged with the team & wanted to fire the coach. The coach was feeling terrible and felt like a FAILURE. He pressured the team saying “why are you here if not to WIN GAMES! Then he sought the LORD & got into the Word for the ANSWER to the question, “what is our PURPOSE in life”? After reading and praying & studying he came to this conclusion: WE ARE HERE TO HONOR GOD!
YOU SEE: GOD IS INTERESTED IN OUR HEARTS!
Heb 4:12 says He is “Dividing asunder the bone from the marrow, the soul and our spirit & judges the thoughts and intents of our hearts”
HE tries men’s hearts! OR our Motives! Why we do what we do? If we teach, preach. Lead worship, help around the church, do we do it from an impure motive (for ourselves) which will all burn up as hay & stubble?
When God Saved Us, We became NEW CREATURES! He gave us the POWER to become the sons & daughter of the living God. Able to DRAW on our DIVINE Nature (Which is like God) if we will recognize this and call upon the Holy Spirit in us now to give us this POWER when we need it! To choose for HIM and not for ourselves when the cross arises in our lives each day. Choose to respond & not react. To “THINK” to HONOR God!
A NEW CREATURE is different from the old one. It has a different purpose, it is made to HONOR GOD! SO WE HAVE A TWO CHOICES: Live for ourselves or live for God. God handed you LIFE. He is our Father who created us and Who gave you your gifts and talents, looks, personalities, likes/dislikes, because YOU WERE CRATED TO HONOR & GLORIFY GOD!
WHAT DOES HONOR MEAN?
- Esteem due to worth
- High respect by acts or words
- Exalt (lift up highly)
- Reverence & submission (as worship to
- Surrendering our will to His will
- Entertain exalted thoughts of (to adore)
WHY DO WE HONOR GOD?
1 Tim 1:17 says that God is our King, He is immortal, Invisible, The ONLY God & is to be HONORED forever!
AND NOT ONLY THAT, BUT BECAUSE
- He CREATED us
- SAVED us by the blood & washed away
- our sins
- REMOVED our guilt & declared us NOT
- Generously POURED out the H.S. on us
- 5. He gave us NEW LIFE
- He has prepared a PLACE for us
- He has given us ROBES of righteousness (you have been given the righteousness of Christ)
- Given us a blessed HOPE
- Written our names down in the LAMB’S BOOK OF LIFE
- He has a new NAME for us
- A new BODY for us
- He will wipe away all our TEARS
- He has given us ETERNAL LIFE
And the privilege of being with Him forever!
WHAT MORE COULD WE ASK FOR?
WHO COULD EVER DO SO MUCH FOR US?
SO NOW WE ARE TO LIVE FOR HIM!
And not for ourselves any longer
We sing so many songs:
a. It’s not about me, it’s about You Jesus
b. And this is TRUE
c. In the world people lives for themselves
d. But WE now life for HIM!
Rev 4:11 tells us:
- He is Worthy to receive Glory
- & Power
- because He created ALL things
- & by HIS will they exist and we do too
John 5:23 tells us we are to:
1. Honor the Son (Jesus)
2. Just as we Honor the Father
Psalms 22:23 we are told to:
1. Give Honor
2. & Praise to God
Eph 5:8-10 says that:
1. Now that we are in the light, we are suppose to find out what pleases the Lord!
HOW DO WE HONOR GOD?
We honor God by the way we live each day! Living for others and not for ourselves. To make others happy and blessed, and to be a blessing to others, then we are a blessing to the Lord.
We are to be a devoted wife
A wonderful mother
A loyal friend
A faithful & thankful daughter
A doting & spiritual aunt or grandmother
A sweet sister
An obedient son or daughter
Who is Honest
Who is Caring
Who shows Love
Who is pleasant to be around
But a joy to be around.
The Bible says in Psalms 19:14, “Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer”.
1. We honor God when we walk in:
3. Honesty (totally)
4. Show love for others
5. When we esteem others more highly than ourselves. Not needing or seeking to be esteemed (Jesus came as a servant and we are servants of God and of each other).
6. When we trust Him (in every circumstance), because He is watching over us.
Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to HIS purpose.”
Prov 3: 5-6 says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
We honor God when we:
Talk respectfully to our husbands & treat them with respect. Not nagging or manipulating them. Not correcting or trying to straighten them out, especially in public.
We honor God when we:
Treat our children with tenderness, patience and not speaking to them harshly, unkindly or putting them down. We do not to wound their spirits but correct their actions.
When we are longsuffering with others who offend us or give us a bad time. When we forgive them from our hearts, letting the pain go through us and not harboring it in our hearts, letting it turn into bitterness, anger or hatred.
When we show compassion & genuine concern for others. We show an interest in others. When we talk to someone after church who might be more needy than ourselves and who just needs someone to be kind to them, and show that someone really cares about them.
1 Cor 10:24 says, “let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being.”
When we go out of our way to do something for someone else, even if it is an inconvenience to us.
When we diligently put our heart into what we are doing, no matter how small the task at hand may seem to be. Eccl 9:10 says, “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with all thy might.” (with all your heart) not half heartedly.
(Kids can honor God too by do their homework, obeying their teachers and parents, and by doing their “best” in school. All these attitudes honor God as well.)
We honor God when we hold our tongues and don’t say what we’d really like to say or what we are really thinking at the time. Not retorting back with some wise answer of disrespect.
We honor God when we listen to someone who talks too much and goes on and on, and we don’t show our frustration with their long drawn out conversation, that you wished would have ended long ago.
We honor God with our bodies by not over eating, watching what we allow to come into our spirits through the media, television and listening to gossip and with our words we speak. There is a little statue my grandmother had in her living room. It was a statue of 3 little monkeys sitting side by side. One had his hands covering his eyes, one had his hands covering his ears, and one had his hands over his mouth. Under the statue it says, “hear no evil, see no evil and speak no evil.” This is how we can honor God with our bodies. 1 Cor 6:20 says, “you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body”
In Titus 2:3-5 it tells us to “let the older women teach the younger women” to love their husbands and their children. To live wisely and be pure. To take care of their homes and to do good. To be in submission to their husbands.”
There was a good teacher in the Body of Christ in America named Bob Mumford who said submission meant, “I could do it another way, but I won’t”. Also he said it meant, “fit in with your husband’s plans”. The scriptures say, “woman was created for the man, and not man for the woman.” Wives are to submit themselves unto their own husbands in all things as unto the Lord. Eph 5. These are ways that we women can Honor God daily. For we were put under our husband’s headship so that we can learn submission to authority, even when we don’t like it. But when we DO submit, serve and respect our husbands; with the right attitude, WE HONOR GOD!
Husbands are to submit to Jesus. They are put under Christ’s headship to learn to rule their households well. To love their wives as Christ loves the Church, and to learn to lead their families with a right heart & attitude. Not us LEAD them! And we must LET them do it, even if we would do it another way. We also must allow for their mistakes, as no one is perfect and cannot do things just right all of the time. They may at times make a mistake, but that is between them and God, and it is not our place to correct, and make them feel they are doing a bad job of leading. Jesus will show them HOW if we will leave them alone and let them learn.
We honor God when we don’t complain. When we don’t complain about our circumstances, the lot we have been given, our husbands or our children, or life’s difficult circumstances. (I really need to watch this one, as this is one thing I naturally do, if I am not walking in the Spirit). When we don’t complain in difficult circumstances, it show that we are trusting God!
We honor God when we accept our circumstances with the right attitude; whether He chooses to change our circumstances or not (that is up to Him). But I do find that when I fully surrender my will to His and accept my circumstances with a right heart (and really mean it); that He often changes my circumstance. But He may NOT, so I have to Know and REALLY BELIEVE that He knows what He is doing, and has my best interest at heart. He knows what it will take to form the CHARACTER in us that we need so we can be more like Jesus, and He knows the best way to have this happen, so we honor and glorify Him by our TRUST.
Sometimes He is refining us even as gold is refined in the fire. Gold is put into a big caldron and extreme heat is put under this caldron, until finally all the dross of the gold comes to the top, and then they take a big tool and skim all the dross off the top. Then if you look into this pot after the dross is skimmed off, you will see your reflection in the pot.
God at times in our lives puts each one of us into fiery trials and turns up the heat, so that the dross can be skimmed off, and what is left is pure gold in us. Then others can look at us, and we may not know it, but they see a reflection of Jesus in us. We become reflectors of His glory for the world to see. Oh, how exciting this is. Yes Lord, do your work in us, so that we may be a reflector of You and Your glory! A-men!
Read Romans 8:28 again. All things work together for good….. So instead of complaining we are told to PRAISE Him!
Daniel 4:34 Nebuchadnezzar said, “at the end of that time, I Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes towards heaven and my sanity was restored. Then I praised the Most High; I honored and glorified him who lives forever. His dominion is an eternal dominion; his kingdom endures from generation to generation.” “I bless the Most High & praise & HONORED Him who lives forever.”
Ps 22:23 says, “you who fear the Lord, praise Him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! Revere Him, all you descendants of Israel.”
We honor God when we offer thanksgiving to Him for all that He has done for us.
“Singing and making melody in our hearts unto the King of Kings! Developing a communion and fellowship with Him. Just loving Him with all our hearts, because He is so wonderful and we are His children.
1 Thess 5:18 says, “give thanks in ALL circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”
Ps 50:13-15, 23 says, “Offer to God thanksgiving, and pay your vows (keep your promises to Him) to the Most High. Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.”
Vs23: “Giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly HONORS ME.” Nkv V 23 says, “Whoever offers praise glorifies Me; And to him who orders his conduct aright I will show the salvation of God.” WOW! Oh dear ones, we have so much ahead of us and such blessing to be bestowed upon us, when we honor God with our lives.
Honoring God is a form of worship to Him. A form of worship with our lives and a way of giving love and devotion to Him. Ps 63:4 says, “I will honor you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer.”
We honor God with our service to Him in the local church, and not just being pew warmers. But letting our gifts and talents be used for the benefit of the church. Being contributors instead of takers. Imagine a body part that didn’t function, there would be something missing that is needed. So you are needed as part of your church body to give, help, care for each other, love, encourage and be faithful to the church that you attend. Taking your responsibility that you are given by the church seriously. You are very important to the church. The pastor cannot do it all by himself. YOU are needed. The Bible tells us that he who is faithful in the little things will be given much.
We all like to be appreciated and recognized or thanked for what we do, but sometimes we don’t receive this. We should not seek the recognition, respect and honor from others for ourselves, what we need is the approval of GOD! He’s the one we are doing it for right? To honor, love and serve Him, by loving, serving others and your church. Remember the widow with the two mites, Rahab with the scarlet cord, Dorcus who made clothes? All these women performed behind the scene ministries but God honored them in the Bible for centuries with HIS approval, and that is what really counts.
THERE ARE REWARDS
IF we do these things that I have been mentioning, we HONOR God with our lives. Then you begin to come into His Presence where there is fullness of job. Where there is a relationship with God that is growing between the two of you. You will find yourself being filled with more and more love for your heavenly Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. And as we honor Him, more and more of a desire is formed in our hearts to do His will, to love others, and put our plans and desires aside.
I had a vision of the Lord. First I saw Him on the cross hanging there, and then the scene switched and I saw Him standing on a beautiful green hill in heaven. He was there all alone and He looked so lonely. I asked Him why He looked so lonely, and He said to me, “they love the gifts that I give, but they don’t love the Giver, will you love Me?” I cried, and said, “Oh yes Lord, I will love you.” I believe that is His call to all of us, to LOVE Him first and foremost in our lives and to please HIM!
We will all go through various season in our lives, but really in the end our love for God and intimacy with Him is all that we can REALLY hang on to. Our children grow up, our spouses die, our friends move or die, our houses get sold, our bodies fail and what do we have in the end? Our love and communion that we have developed all through these years with our heavenly Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit, because that is Who we were created for!
This life is so short. Nothing material really matters. Only the fact that are we honoring God with our lives daily? In what we do, in what we say, and in what we think? That is what life is all about.
We are on the playing field of life, and it’s not whether we win or loose. It’s not whether we’re rich or poor, successful in the world’s eyes or not, go here or there, have this or than, whether we’re treated like we’d like to be treated, whether we’re loved and appreciated or not. It’s whether or not we’re living our lives down here to Honor God and that that is our purpose for living.
This life is our boot camp! Our training ground. To prepare us for the next life. It’s a place where our character is formed, our attitudes are changed, where the old man dies and the new man is put on, where we are made conformable to the image of Christ. Where we are prepared to be made into His Bride without spot or wrinkle. Where the flaws are removed or else we have to go around the mountain again (like the Children of Israel) because they didn’t get it right. So we each one go through different experiences.
Jesus wants every part of us. Every area of our life to be given to Him everyday with NO holding back. He wants to be enthroned as “LORD” in our hearts and us to be de-throned. We are to live for Him and HIS purposes and not our own hopes and dreams and desires. It’s not about us, it’s about HIM. Today we are continually being pumped with “self” and made conscious of ourselves. This has produced a very shallow, self-centered society, where we are the objects to be worshipped and adored, and not the Savior. Where we place love upon ourselves instead of Him. This is tearing our country apart, and Satan is having a field day with American and her godless views today. We are HIS servants. Soldiers in HIS army. To do battle against the enemy of man’s soul.
There is a higher plain to live on. A higher calling and spiritual real to apprehend. There is an old song that says, “Lord life me up and let me stand on heaven’s table land, a higher plain that I have found, Lord plant my feet on higher ground.” There is so much more to be apprehended by those who will give themselves to God to Honor Him and not ourselves. A REAL reason to live and be. Where we are not so concerned about this earth, but where we walk in FAITH and TRUST in God, to take care of all earthly matters, and to take care of all the people around us.
Phil 4:6 says, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Yes, there is a place where our whole desire is transformed to want to Honor God in all that we ARE. That HE is our portion, our love, our desire and our satisfaction. Everything you do is so important to God, if you do it to honor Him.
SO LET’S GET SERIOUS
AND change our perspective about life. Let’s re-commit ourselves to our blessed Lord and Savior and to our heavenly Father above. Let’s try to honor Him in all and in the little things each day. Each morning dedicating the day to please Him and not ourselves. To be ready to serve Him as the opportunity arises, because we know we are actually serving Him. “If you give a cup of cold water in My Name you have given it to Me. If you do it to the least of these My little ones, you have done it unto Me.”
It is so amazing what happens when we decide to do this with our whole lives. He does some pretty amazing things. Usually unexpected. The Bible says, 1Sam 2:30, “Those who honor me I will honor, but those who despise me will be distained” NKV NKJ “….me shall be lightly esteemed”.
And in the end as we enter the gates of heaven, we will hear “Well done by good and faithful servant, come enter into your rest”.
May the Lord bless you and open your eyes to see that this is PURPOSE of our Christian lives.
